My main background is in structural biology. The research carried out in my laboratory is original and has no relationship with any of the projects and/or protein systems, which I was using during my postdoctoral stay. My main interests involve: (i) the resolution of three-dimensional protein structures by NMR; (ii) studies of protein stability and folding described by using several biophysical techniques (namely, CD, fluorescence, chromatography and NMR); and, (iii) protein-macromolecule (nucleic acids, protein or lipids) interactions, described and characterized by using the above mentioned biophysical techniques.
My group also has collaborations with other Spanish and European groups interested either in resolving the three-dimensional structure of their own proteins, or involved in the elucidation of the stability and folding mechanisms of those proteins. In all cases, the proteins studied have biotechnological (as it happens in the proteins of phosphorylation transfer system) or medical applications (as in the SAM domain of p73 or in designing new drugs against the protein forming the capsid of HIV).
